Good Morning Gators!

Traffic was pretty decent and I arrived in enough time to drive around the block a few times to find parking and to find the place. I don’t think the proprietors want you to find it. This was by far the most generic restaurant storefront yet. I drove past it twice looking for it and you could see why.

The interior has a Hotel Lobby feel   7   Jazz music is playing   7    The place is BIG and Carpet free

Coffee is served by our most excellent Server Hasani   Coffee   7   Hasani   10   Fancy Cloth Napkins

The menu is pretty big in both size and scope. Gators know that I really dislike big menus

I looked at the menu online so I had a general idea what I wanted but of course there are specials.  I ordered Lamb Sausage off of the special sheet. After a few minutes had passed the manager Andreas came over and told us that the special was not available due to a lack of ingredients that haven’t arrived from the supplier yet. I was pretty disappointed but instead I ordered…

Paris Benedict-  Grilled brioche topped with poached eggs, gruyere cheese, cherrywood smoked bacon, grilled fresh asparagus, and truffle and chive cream; served with roast red potatoes

Potatoes.    7    Very similar to Alexanders in Elgin Illinois. The Hollandaise was good. Smooth thick and garlicky but not overly   8   Thick Bacony Bacon   8    The Asparagus was tender crisp   8    The bread was good but under toasted   7   The cheese was un melted and the Poached eggs were Over. (better than under)   6    Over all this dish was a    7    With a bit more attention it could be bumped up to an solid   8

I almost forgot the Orange Wedge! I wasn’t going to say it but I know that some of my fellow Gators are already thinking it. “1965 called and they want their garnish back” There ya go.   :0)

 

Breakfast Enchiladas

Corn tortillas stuffed with pulled pork, peppers, onions, and Chihuahua cheese, topped with two eggs your way and salsa verde, served with rice and beans

White rice and onions. Eh   6   The beans were OK. A bit soupy   6    Sunnyside Up Eggs. Cooked? Nope   5    The green sauce was good and so was the Pork. Tender and Porky.  Overall this was a   7    

Just as I about to order the sweet round Andreas appeared with the Lamb Sausage Entree.

Grilled Merguez Sausage served over Grits with warm Tomato Chutney and Arugula Salad.

I am going to come out of the gate and tell you that this one of the tastiest dishes that I’ve had. The Grits were a bit under done but tasty. The Tomato Chutney was delicious. Sweet Tangy and Spicy   9    The Poached Eggs were near perfect   9    The lamb sausage was spiced right. Nutmeg Cinnamon Allspice maybe and a bit of heat    9   The Arugula salad was a good foil to cut the richness. Overall this was a very rare   9   I was very happy this showed up. I want to point out that this is a seasonal special. I really think that it needs to be added to the regular menu.

Cherry Hotcakes

Bread pudding style pancakes with white chocolate toasted almonds  and sweet and tart cherry sauce

Orange Spiced French Toast

Home made spiced orange bread battered and grilled strawberries pineapple and caramelized pineapple syrup.

Oatmeal Cakes

Oatmeal pancakes with Heath and Coffee topping

The Oatmeal cakes were a bit thin and chewy but pretty tasty. The coffee and heath flavor came through   7    

The French Toast wasn’t french toast. (See Rant Page)

The bread was a   9    The caramel sauce was caramelly and Syrupy sweet and good   8

Bread Pudding Pancakes

The pancake tasted a little charred. It was custardy and soft and a touch floury.   7    The cherry maple syrup was good   8    The flight as a whole was an   8   

This trip was a bit of a mixed bag. Some OK bites and some Fantastic.

The service was excellent.

I would suggest you get there before the Lamb Sausage is gone off of the special sheet. It was worth the trip.

As for me I’m off to my next adventure.
