Thank You David for the recommendation! WHISK
Dove’s opens at 9. I normally open with good morning but 9 is almost afternoon.

I hate to start on a negative note especially since my fans know I don’t really like to write anything negative. The place is small but more to my point it’s pretty much all counter and communal dining. If you are a fat introvert like me, this is a bad combination. You are going to be parking your @ss on a stool eating next to a stranger. On the other hand if you are a friendly extrovert that loves to meet new people this is for you. Especially if you love Hipsters.
It was clean and carpet free. I DID spot one Chicken statue. UGH There was an interesting mix of Blues, Soul, R&B and 80’s Porn music. (Not that I have any idea what that sounds like) 7

Awwwww How Sweet
Coffee is served minus any alternative sweetner. Sugar out of a butler is your only choice.
The Coffee was good though 8 They have a couple of delicious cold brews that Matthew brought me to sample. He provided me with the science behind it but I didn’t write it down. Dope 8

The menu is of moderate size. I checked it out on line so I had some familiarity with it. Off we go!
Burnt Ends Hash
I love Burnt Ends so they already have a foot in my culinary door. The Burnt ends were tender and well seasoned. 8 The potatoes reminded me of potato skins that were chopped and deep fried. 8 The Sunny Side Up eggs were very close to perfect 9 The toast was of your standard Texas variety 5 BUT it was BUTTERED 9 The collective score of this tasty dish is an 8 Dove’s also supplied 3 kinds of spicy house sauces on the table that were all good.

Avocado Toast
Make sure that you take a look at the Menu for a complete description of this imaginative dish. It was crispy and very delicious! All it needed was a sprinkle of salt. Unfortunately all that was available was table salt. This was worth parking my big butt on an uncomfortable stool for. 9

Chicken Fried Chicken
Some of you may know that there are a couple of comfort foods that are universally loved that I am just luke warm about. One of them is Fried Chicken. This happens to be one of Dove’s signature dishes. I ordered it sort of knowing that I wasn’t going to love it. I was wrong. It was great. Crisp Juicy and a touch of citrus. 2 things were a big contributor. Chicken THIGHS. My favorite. I also suspect that the chicken was brined. The Gravy was fantastic but sparse and I love Peas which were plentiful. Hat off to you Chef You made an 8 bordering on a 9 Fried Chicken Dish.

Odd Stubby chicken cutter. As it turned I didn’t need it. It was tender enough to cut with a fork.

Stubby Chicken Cutter
My legs were falling asleep from the stool. I took a trip to the RR to stretch my legs. Matthew wiped off the table and did a fork swap 10

Sopapillas Con Queso Requesón
A little hard to eat. I could have used the stubby chicken cutter on them. The crispy flying saucers of dough were light and delicious. The ricotta style citrus flavored cheese and Sorghum syrup worked. I haven’t had Sorghum Syrup since I was a small child. YUM 8

So to wrap it up Gators, Dove’s has good food but you’d better be there when they open. Also be ready for a communal dining experience.
As for me I’m off to my next adventure!
